Chandigarh's Development Path: Industrial Area Transformation and Advisory Council's Endeavors

In a significant stride towards Chandigarh's urban development, the Administrator's Advisory Council, reconvened in December last year, convened its first meeting on Friday. Comprising 60 members, this council plays a pivotal role in advising the Chandigarh administration on vital city development matters. During the meeting, Chandigarh Administrator Banwarilal Purohit announced a forthcoming draft conversion policy for the city's Industrial Areas, emphasizing the allowance of business-to-consumer (B2C) activities. 

Empowering Industrial Zones:

Administrator Banwarilal Purohit, presiding over the meeting at Hotel Mountview in Sector 10, shared the administration's commitment to evolve Industrial Areas into dynamic zones by permitting B2C activities. This strategic move seeks to harness the untapped potential of these areas and enhance economic vibrancy. The draft policy, set to be unveiled within a week, aims to harmonize business growth with urban planning imperatives.

Reviving an Opportunity:

The draft policy is poised to reintroduce B2C activities within Industrial Areas. These activities were initially sanctioned in the Conversion Policy of 2005 but subsequently retracted in 2008, aligning with the Chandigarh Master Plan. This revitalization of B2C opportunities underscores the administration's progressive approach towards optimizing industrial spaces for diverse commercial ventures.

A Name and Vision Renewed:

In a dual affirmation of transformation, the council also granted approval to rename the "Industrial Area" as the "Chandigarh Industrial and Business Park." This symbolic renaming signifies a broader vision that encompasses not just industries but also commerce, thereby accentuating the area's multifaceted potential.

Assurance and Diverse Development:

Reassuring the residents, Administrator Purohit affirmed that no individuals would face eviction during the ongoing survey conducted in rehabilitation colonies. The meeting also encompassed diverse development themes, including the formulation of distinct building bylaws for villages, the inclusion of water bodies within neighborhood parks, and the establishment of water recharge wells. These initiatives align with the overarching goal of creating sustainable and harmonious urban spaces.
